Bird Pencil Case

Completed March 2009

For my first post on my new craft blog I'm showcasing my most recently completed project. It's a pencil case for my sister. She's been asking me to make her something like this for awhile now. She just went back to school to finish her Bachelor's degree, so I thought a pencil case would be appropriate. The Helen Keller quote ended up being exactly what I wanted (I found it after I started the project). It says "One can never be content to creep when one has an impulse to soar." The outside of the pouch was made with turquoise vinyl and the inside is lined with brown on yellow polka dot fabric.  I made that little yellow bird illustration for the zipper pull in Photoshop. The "A" is my sister's initial. She's loves birds.

  1. I LOVE it! I love the colors and how you did that quote. I'll put an order in for one come around May 31st!

  2. Congratulations, Ashley! You are the first person to visit this blog (other than Marito and me, but I don't count, and I MADE him). Actually, the reason I made this for Amanda was because I made that other bird one for you a couple years ago and Amanda put me under obligation to make one for her!

  3. Brittany, Brittany, Brittany. I can count on you to take my brilliant idea for a craft site and make it gorgeous, cute, quirky, and fun all at the same time. I am glad that I have sisters that actual realize their plans so that I can live vicariously through their work. In the meantime, I may or may not get back to knitting another hat.

  4. ps. I LOVE the pencil case, complete with inspirational quote. I think you should have your own line at expensive boutiques someday. (You can hire underprivlidged women in some third world country to supply the labor, of course. Very chic and politically conscious.)

  5. Thanks, Bridey. I'll consider it. I still have a lot to do with this blog. Like make it pretty and start back-blogging some older stuff. I was going to do that tonight, but I'm too tired. Thanks for lending me support!
