Soft Baby Saddle Shoes
Hurray! Success! I finished Monkey Two's saddle shoes.
Yes, you saw right. They are light green on brown. Fun! I snapped these pictures after church today, where the little squirt wore them for the first time.
For inspiration I looked at some older leather and vinyl baby shoes we have and, of course, classic saddle shoes. Usually the "saddle" part of the shoe is darker, but I wanted the toes to be dark, since that part gets the most dirty and scuffed. I loosely used this pattern, but I had to resize it, with many attempts in paper and scrap fabric. The shoes are perhaps too wide in the toes, so I might take them in a bit. But better to have them too roomy than unbearably tight!
I made the shoes with some of the leather scraps I was telling you about before (purchased here). You can see I haven't trimmed the elastic on the inside yet. I want to make sure it's the right length first.
The next pair of shoes I make will be play shoes. I'd like to keep this somewhat nice for church.
LOVE them!! Since before Elijah was born I have had "making baby shoes" on my to do list, but have yet to make them. It's one of those things I kinda wanted to do with someone b/c I was afraid I'd mess them up.
ReplyDeleteYours turned out fabulously! How long do you think they took you to make?
oh and btw, your little model is a keeper! So so adorable!!
ReplyDeleteThese turned out great! So cute! I don't know how you just whip things up. Speaking of whipping things up I need to get you some fabric for my sling. I saw the fabric I wanted at IKEA. How many yards do I need?
ReplyDeleteWhat the hay??? Are you kidding me? You are soooooo amazingly talented!! If you get these down to a science----PLEASE sell them---they are so amazingly darling!!
ReplyDeleteWow Brittany! That sure didn't take you long!!
ReplyDeleteThey are REALLY cute! I love them!!
P.S. And the little guy, too, of course!
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone! No, they didn't take me long at all, especially since I had the first trial one with the tan and brown ones. These were much simpler than those because these weren't lined. (The underside of leather is so much softer than vinyl) Thanks for all your nice comments. I'm pleased with them, myself.
ReplyDeleteTell me you are kidding and these aren't for real!!
ReplyDeleteYou win official, most creative sister.
Brittany, you are AMAZING! I love them! Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to make leather shoes for my little one and am so glad I found your blog! I live in Utah but would like to buy the leather online from the store you suggested but have no idea what kind to get. Can you tell me what kind (and color) the dark leather is?
ReplyDeleteLove the shoes! I have been wanting to make shoes for a while now, but I don't currently have little ones.
